Ian's research interests lies in gaining an understanding of the relationship between the physical and the social. In particular the way that this relationship determines not only how space is created, but also the manner in which space is subsequently used.

He is actively engaged in collaboration with staff from Nottingham Trent University, pursuing research connected with the use of buildings for Hospitality and Sustainable Development.
