I am an accredited sport and exercise scientist, Fellow of the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES), Chair of the CASES Physiology and Nutrition Division and Director of CASES. I hold senior fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, and registed by the Science Council as a Chartered Scientist (CSci). I am the School of Sport and Physical Activity Research Ethics Lead and sit on the Sheffield Hallam University Research Ethics Committe and am a member of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) advisory group member for the Sport & Exercise Sciences Subject Benchmark Statement.

I have provided physiological support for Olympians, Paralympians, World, Commonwealth, European and British champions in a range of sports from wheelchair fencing to professional boxing and have co-authored over 50 scientific manuscripts. I welcome applications from potential PhD students relating to any of my areas of scientific interest.

My scientific interests are high-intensity interval training, thermoregulation and performance for elite sport. I have been fortunate enough to provide scientific support to professional boxers in 15 world-title fights as well as Olympians, Paralympians and professional and amateur athletes in a range of sports and have published and presented my research on sports performance internationally. I have provided scientific consultation to Premier League Football clubs, the English Institute of Sport and academic institutions in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.
