I qualified as an Operating Department Practitioner from Sheffield Hallam University in 2010 following completion of a previous science degree and postgraduate qualification as a teacher.

After undertaking work as a specialist visiting lecturer while working in clinical practice, I joined the ODP team full time in 2015 and have been awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

I am currently working towards completion of my PhD and hold external roles as an External Examiner and as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Perioperative Practice.

I qualified as an Operating Department Practitioner from Sheffield Hallam University gaining the Swann Morton award for academic excellence following completion of a BSc (dual hons) in Biochemistry and Genetics, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Secondary School Science with Qualified Teacher Status.

I have worked in a number of areas of clinical practice including areas outside of the operating theatre department such as intensive care, burns unit, interventional radiology and accident and emergency at a major trauma centre. My main area of clinical practice was specialising in obstetrics which developed my interest in the area that I am exploring within my PhD study. While in clinical practice, I undertook work at Hallam as a specialist visiting lecturer and completed an MSc in Advanced Professional Development.

As a Senior Lecturer I have held various roles within the team, including Admissions Lead and Course Lead and have been awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. I teach across various modules of the ODP programmes, the Integrated Care Curriculum provision, for which I also lead a module across all health and social care profession courses, as well as supervising MSc students on the dissertation module.

I am currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Perioperative Practice, having previously been a peer reviewer for a number of years. I also hold a role as an External Examiner and represent the College of Operating Department Practitioners on the Community of Allied Health Professions Research Strategy Committee. I co-founded and co-lead the ODP Research and Innovation Community of Practice group aimed at developing research capability and capacity within the ODP profession as well as currently conducting other work relating to this.
