I am a Senior Lecturer in Radiotherapy and Oncology within the Allied Health Department in the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences at Sheffield Hallam University. My teaching and research focus on radiotherapy, oncology, and supportive and palliative care, with a particular interest in breast cancer and the delivery of personalised, holistic care across the cancer pathway.
I recently completed a Professional Doctorate, further developing my expertise in breast cancer care education and practice. My doctoral research explored the experiences of breast cancer patients undergoing treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on patient experience and the delivery of supportive care during periods of service disruption.
I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and a reviewer for the Journal of Radiotherapy in Practice. I also contribute to the Society of Radiographers Breast Cancer Specialist Interest Group and support the Cancer Management Research Seminar Series at Sheffield Hallam University.
I teach across both pre-registration and postgraduate programmes in Radiotherapy and Oncology. My specialist teaching areas include breast cancer, personalised and supportive care, palliative and end-of-life care, the psychology of cancer care, and research methods.
I currently serve as Course Leader for the MSc Supportive Oncology and Cancer Care, where I lead modules in breast cancer, personalised care, palliative care, and understanding loss, grief and bereavement. I have also led the development and revalidation of several fully online postgraduate programmes, including the MSc Supportive, Palliative and End of Life Care, and have extensive experience in the design and delivery of distance learning for healthcare professionals.
Before entering academia at Sheffield Hallam University, I trained as a Therapy Radiographer in 2004 and worked clinically within NHS radiotherapy services in roles including Senior Radiographer, Team Lead, Superintendent Radiographer and Practice Educator. I subsequently moved into higher education, holding academic roles at universities in the south of England and London before joining Sheffield Hallam University in 2011. These roles further developed my expertise in radiotherapy education and healthcare professional development.
My research and professional interests include breast cancer and the patient experience, personalised and supportive care for people living with cancer, palliative approaches to care, and the long-term and late effects of cancer treatment.
