ABOUt

Robbie is a Lecturer on Sheffield Hallam University's (SHU) Sport Business Management courses. He leads and teaches all of the finance and economic modules on Sport Business Management across the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In addition, Robbie is research active and leads SHU's Sport Industry Research Centre's economic impact of major sporting event research portfolio. His research interests focus on the finance and economics of sport and understanding the impact of major sporting events. He regularly attends international conferences to present his research. 

 

Robbie first joined Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) in 2011 as a Casual Researcher, whilst he was studying Sport Business Management at SHU. After graduating with a first-class honours degree Robbie joined the Sport Industry Research Centre as a full-time member of the team in 2014 and has since progressed to become a Lecturer in the Sport Business Management team within the School of Sport and Physical Activity. During this time at SHU, Robbie has worked on a wide range of different consultancy research projects for a number of high-profile public and private sector clients, namely the R&A, Ryder Cup Europe, UK Sport, RFU, Badminton England, London Marathon, All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club (AELTC), Sport England, Henley Royal Regatta and Premier League Charitable Fund. 

Robbie has a wealth of experience in conducting research at major sporting events. He leads SIRC's major event impact evaluation portfolio and manages teams of researchers collecting data in the field at major sporting events for UK Sport, the R&A, AELTC and Ryder Cup Europe and other clients. Robbie's has built a research portfolio on the economics and finance of cricket and has recently attended major international sport management conferences (EASM, SMAANZ and NASSM) to present his research. In addition, Robbie regularly features in the media to discuss the finances of English cricket.

Robbie leads all of the finance and economic teaching within the School of Sport and Physical Activity. He also provides opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students to engage in paid research experience. Since 2017 he has provided such opportunities to over 35 students. Since 2017, Robbie has supervised 65 students students through their final year dissertation projects. Robbie also delivers Sport Business Management modules to students at the Shape Campus in Hong Kong.
