Following over 20 years as a leader in the commercial and non for profit sectors I joined Sheffield Business School in 2012. I teach in the areas of Strategy, Enterprise, Leadership and Innovation, my research is focused on Responsible Leadership and Social Enterprise.
Within my areas of expertise, I teach across a range of undergraduate and post graduate courses, I also supervise post graduate and doctoral students whose research is aligned with my expertise. I have developed numerous modules in the areas of strategy, innovation and leadership and have also led the development of a range of courses (e.g. BA (Hons) Enterprise and Management, MBA and Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship). As well as providing traditional approaches in teaching and learning I have also developed and delivered experiential learning interventions for the university and am a qualified instructor of climbing, mountaineering, kayaking and ski-ing.
I also work with local and national employers in developing their leaders and managers through the university’s executive education provision (CPD) and business development activities such as Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. Much of this work capitalises on my experience as a management consultant where I have advised numerous organisations from new start high growth SMEs to multinationals such as EDF Energy, IMI PLC and Corus PLC. My consultancy experience focused on organisational strategy along with leadership and management development. I continue this work within my role at Sheffield Business School working with our business clients such as Equitrek, Tempus Novo and the Post Office.
My previous leadership experience includes roles such as Head of Department for a Management Consultancy. I am also the founder and former CEO of 'SFEDI Awards', the UK's Awarding Organisation for professional qualifications in business support and enterprise. I have also established and led my own consultancy business, The Rubicon Partnership Ltd. Within the non for profit sector, I have held management positions with charities such as The Princes Trust and Raleigh International and have provided consultancy to a number of humanitarian aid organisations in Europe and Asia.
