ABOUt

I am a Registered Learning Disability Nurse, a Registered Mental Health Nurse, a Qualified Nurse Teacher and a Specialist Practitioner in CBT for Psychosis. I currently work in the School of Health and Social care where I lecture in a broad range of topics, primarily related to mental health nursing.  From both a clinical, and a research perspective, my focus tends to be people with intellectual disabilities who also experience mental health problems.

Before joining Sheffield Hallam University, I held a range of clinical and managerial positions in NHS services for people with intellectual disabilities and for those with mental health problems.  These culminated in my role as a programme director, and the clinical lead for a regional programme that combined statistical approaches with clinical expertise to develop a needs-led classification system for mental health service users.

Since then I have continued to undertake quantitative research, based on analyses of local and national mental health datasets.  I have an MSc in Health Informatics and have designed a range of different elements of electronic patient records including patient self-assessments and staff assessment tools. I am interested in turning data from these sources into real-time clinical decision support.

Since moving to Hallam I have remained focused on these areas, balancing teaching with my research projects and seeking to make research more comprehensible, and appealing to both student nurses, and qualified nurses returning for further study.
