ABOUt

Dr. Jims Marchang received his PhD from the CSCAN Research Laboratory at the University of Plymouth, UK. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Cybersecurity in the School of Computing and Digital Technologies at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), where he leads the research theme on Zero Trust Systems. He also leads the Intelligent and Secure Cybersecurity research group (iSec CyberNet). His research focuses on developing secure, safe, and privacy-preserving solutions for multimodal autonomous robotic systems, as well as designing transparent and trustworthy security frameworks for resource-constrained embedded and sensing systems such as Internet of Things (IoT), Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT), and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). His other broader research interests include blockchain security, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and Model Context Protocol (MCP) for building secure and trustworthy AI-enabled systems.

 

He is a member of IEEE and a fellow of HEA, UK. REF 2021 participant as SRR+ in the UoA11 at SHU . He is a reviewer of Winchester University for REF activities. He is also a mentor of AWRC Wellbeing Accelerator (R&D-focused programme). He extends his research collaboration with Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC) for safeguarding and securing healthcare technologies and support Advanced Food Innovation Centre (AFIC) and Business School research activities to provide safe and secure monitoring and providing solutions to maintain transparency and traceability using scalable & energy efficient Blockchain technologies. He supports and mentors new colleagues at SHU. He has developed and managed a secure smart IoT testbed for research activities. He also manages a LoRAWAN external gateway for smart research activity at SHU.

 

As a research scientist he has published high impact scientific research journal papers in the field of networks and security. He has many years of experience in both teaching and supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the field of computer science, networks, and cybersecurity, including Ph.D. research projects. He involves in reviewing scientific research journals, conference papers, and books. He is also an author of two books. He also has an experience of working as a guest journal editor at Environmental Research and Public Health, MDPI. Author of a book called Optimising Application Performance in Ad Hoc Networks: A Research Perspective, Lambert Academic publishing, Germany and authored a book with a BCS-CREST Penetration Testing Working Group, called Penetration Testing, A Guide for Business and IT Managers.

 

He was a Research Co-Lead of Digital , AI and Robotics at Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre from 2021 till 2025.He was a course leader of BSc Cybersecurity, SHU from 2017-2020. He was an external assessor and validator of Middlesex University (2019-2020) of Networks and Security BSc course. He was an external examiner at Winchester University and University of Plymouth from 2020-2025. He was also Awarded Inspirational Teaching Award from the College of Business, Technology & Engineering, Sheffield Hallam University in 2020. He received the best research paper award in 15th International Conference on Advance Computing and Communication, IEEE conferences, 2007.
