I am an environmental geoscientist, researching the ways in which human activity affects the physical environment and trying to find solutions to the ways in which the physical environment affects human activity.
I graduated from University College London with an MSci in Planetary Sciences, before completing an MSc in Environmental Sciences at Birkbeck, University of London, and then a PhD in Environmental Engineering at The University of Sheffield.
After my PhD I worked in the Kroto Research Institute as a postdoctoral scientist and early-career research fellow, on projects related to risks to human health from environmental pathogens, weathering of minerals by plant-symbiont fungi, supraglacial weathering and environmental colloids and nanoparticles.
I joined the Centre for Engineering Sustainability at the University of Liverpool in 2012 as a Lecturer in Environmental Engineering, where much of my research was oriented around environmental radioactivity, further work on environmental nanoparticles, and catchment modelling.
Returning to Sheffield in 2017 as a Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography here at Sheffield Hallam, I have become increasingly involved in landscape systems research in collaboration with the Sheffield Lakeland Partnership. I progressed to Associate Professor in January 2020.
I am also Sheffield Hallam's liaison lead for the Council for At-Risk Academics, supporting academics seeking sanctuary from violence and persecution through visiting scholarships, mentoring, research collaboration and networking.
