I have been a qualified Nurse since 2010, where my career began in the NHS as a Gynaecology Nurse. I am an alumni of Sheffield Hallam University. I have a keen interest in race equity and student belonging. I founded the Nursing and Midwifery Minoritised Group. Currently, I am one of the co-chairs of the Staff Race Equity Network.
I currently work as an Associate Head in the School of Health and Social Care and am the Profession Lead for Mental Health Nursing and Art Psychotherapy.
The passion, enthusiasm, and drive I have demonstrated through my own self-development in race equity have led me to win the institution's Students' Union Academic Staff of the Year Award, College Outstanding Student Support Award, and, more recently, be a finalist in the Student Nursing Times Award for Educator of the Year.
In addition to my work at Sheffield Hallam, I have a national profile in the area of race equity in healthcare and healthcare education. This has led to me working with regional and national groups, and more recently, I have been approved as a member of the Council of Deans (Health) Anti- racism Advisory group, where I advise the Council of Deans of Health’s board and its staff team on anti-racism aspects of its policy work and organisational processes.
I have completed all my qualifications at Sheffield Hallam University, including an Advanced Diploma, a degree, a Master's in Professional Practice, and a Doctorate in Education, exploring the transition experience of ethnically minoritised student nurses into university. I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
