I joined SHU in November 2018 following a nursing and health visiting career. Based in the Centre for Leadership within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, I am the course leader, for the MSc Health and Social Care Leadership.
I have worked in a variety of roles within my professional career, firstly, within nursing and then as a health visitor. Throughout my career, I have had a keen interest in education. This developed from my role as a Practice Teacher for students undertaking the Specialist Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) course.
For many years I held senior leadership positions as Lead Nurse for Health Visiting and Professional Lead in 0 to 19 Children’s Universal Services. Working in these leadership roles allowed me to reflect critically on my own leadership identity and explore the impact of different leadership styles and behaviours in practice.
I have also had the opportunity to work at both regional and national level leading on a number of projects designed to strengthen clinical leadership. These roles have been instrumental in building my knowledge, expertise and interest in supporting the development of our future health and social care leaders.
Through my teaching and advising roles on the MSc Health and Social Care Leadership and its modules I am passionate about offering students the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and awareness to enhance their own leadership.
