Dr Andy Hext is a Research Fellow in the Sports Engineering Research Group at Sheffield Hallam University. Andy’s expertise is in sports analytics, with a specialism in Olympic and Paralympic sport. Recent examples of Andy’s work include:

 

 

Alongside his research, Andy serves as the course lead for the research group's MSc in Sports Engineering with Artificial Intelligence and coordinates the course’s year-long industry-linked research project.

 

Before Andy joined the Sports Engineering Research Group, he completed a BSc in Sports Equipment Design (First Class Honours), an MSc in Sports Engineering (Distinction), and a PhD CASE studentship (funded by the UK Sports Institute and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council). His PhD investigated the measurement of relay exchange kinematics in short-track speed skating using a network of 27 cameras. During his studentship, Andy was seconded to GB Short-Track as a performance analyst to support the team's preperations for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
