ABOUt

Dr Yaşanur Kayıkcı is an Associate Professor in Logistics and Supply Chain at Sheffield Business School and an internationally recognised expert in digital and sustainable supply chains, technology management, and business model innovation. She also serves as R&I Co-Lead at the Advanced Food Innovation Centre (AFIC) at Sheffield Hallam University and holds Visiting Fellow/Visiting Professor appointments at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), University of Sussex, and at Sol Plaatje University, Kimberley, South Africa.

 

She has over 25 years of combined industrial, consulting, and academic experience, working with organisations across the UK, US, Europe, and Asia on digital supply chain transformation, industrial digitalisation, and logistics information system design and implementation.

 

Her research focuses on digital supply chains and Industry 4.0–enabled applications in logistics and supply chain management, including artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, blockchain, big data analytics, digital twins, and the physical internet. Her broader research interests encompass digital supply chain transformation, collaborative platforms and business models, smart circular economy, sustainability, sharing economy, on-demand services, urban mobility, and decision support systems. Her work is strongly aligned with Sheffield Business School’s research themes of digital transformation and sustainable supply chains, addressing complex real-world challenges and delivering scalable, impact-driven solutions.

 

Prior to joining Sheffield Business School, Dr Yaşanur Kayıkcı held senior academic leadership roles, including Head of Department and Associate Professor in Industrial Engineering, at state universities in Turkey and Austria. She has led and contributed to numerous interdisciplinary research and consultancy projects supporting the digital transformation of large enterprises as well as small and medium-sized companies, particularly in the manufacturing, automotive, transportation, electronics, and food sectors.

 

Dr Yaşanur Kayıkcı has secured more than £2 million in competitive research funding from national and international bodies, including the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, the British Council, Newton Fund, the Royal Academy of Engineering, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Austrian Research Promotion Agency, and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. She also serves as an expert advisor to the European Commission on logistics, digitalisation, and sustainability. She has been listed in the World’s Top 2% Researchers/Scientists by Elsevier BV and Stanford University since 2021, recognising her sustained scholarly impact.

 

She holds a PhD in Information Management from Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU), where her doctoral thesis was awarded the Best PhD Thesis among Austrian universities by the Dr Maria Schaumayer Foundation for outstanding research excellence. She obtained her BSc and MSc degrees in Industrial Engineering from Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) and holds a Docent (Habilitation) degree in Industrial Engineering, an Associate Professor qualification approved by the Inter-University Council in Turkey. In addition, she is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK.

 

Dr Yaşanur Kayıkcı has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, books, book chapters, technical reports, and professional publications. Her research appears in leading ABS-ranked international journals, including Journal of Business Logistics, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of Business Research, Production Planning & Control, Annals of Operations Research, and Business Strategy and the Environment. Her multidisciplinary research approach combines quantitative and qualitative methods and draws on operations research and management, business analytics, management science, information systems, decision sciences, cognitive science, and management studies to develop innovative business models and decision-support tools.
