ABOUt

I am a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at Sheffield Hallam University and the course leader for BA (Hons) Politics and IR. My research focuses on Transborderism at the Mexico-US border and the subsequent production of international politics from below. I also investigate migration, borders, and human mobility in the Global South.

In addition to my primary research, I have explored other topics such as Transborder research methods, technological self-defense protocols for fieldwork in conflict areas, internal and indigenous forced displacement, gendered border dynamics, border medicalisation, and family strategies at the borderlands. My work draws on Critical Border Studies, Decoloniality, Postcoloniality, Indigenous Feminisms, Latin American Studies, European Studies and Chicanx Studies.

Before academia, I was Chief of Department of International Cooperation for the Mexican Secretariat of Public Education and Tourism. I also worked at the International Organization for Migration (IOM, UN). Dr Meneses Gutierrez is also co-convenor for the Migration and Border Working Group within the British International Studies Association.

I teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses and modules such as Planetary Politics, Understanding Human Rights, Decolonial and Postcolonial Philosophies, and Rethinking International Relations.

I hold a PhD in Politics from Goldsmiths College, University of London (UK), an MA in International Politics and Area Studies by Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), and a BA in International Relations from ITESO (Mexico). I was born and raised in Mexico.
