I began my career as a support worker working with young people with autism, an experience which inspired me to qualify as a mental health nurse. Over the years, I’ve worked in diverse clinical settings, including a young people’s inpatient unit, an adult inpatient unit, and a community team. These professional experiences were guided by excellent mentorship and positively shaped my approach to mental health care. In 2022, I joined Sheffield Hallam University, where I teach on the bachelor’s and master’s pre-registration mental health nursing courses. I also lead the child, adolescent, and family mental health master's program. My teaching philosophy is to have active classes that value the co-production of teaching with service users.
My research focuses on physical activity for mental health, the mental health needs of young asylum seekers, and students who have taken a break in study, with publications and conference presentations in these areas.
I am also an external examiner for Manchester Metropolitan University. I am committed to advancing innovative and compassionate approaches in mental health education and practice.
