ABOUt
I am a Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management in the Business, Management and People Division of Sheffield Business School. My main interest is in applied, contextualised learning for businesses and organisations, and I apply this in my higher education teaching practice. I am Module Leader for the MSc Consultancy Project module, the MBA online Strategic Management module and the Senior Leader Apprenticeship Leading Change Projects module at Masters level. At undergraduate level, I am Module Leader for two capstone Level 6 modules: Strategy in the Global and Digital Environment and Implementing Strategy and Change. I am a Module Tutor for the range of apprenticeship work-based project modules (Levels 4 to 7). I am an MBA tutor and supervisor. I am also a facilitator on the Help to Grow programme.
I have a BA (Hons) Politics and English degree, an MSc in Management and a PhD studied whilst working as a full-time lecturer at the University of Derby. I worked for 16 years in a variety of management roles before becoming a lecturer, and draw on this experience in my teaching, as well as my experience as a self-employed trainer and consultant, work which I carried out alongside my management roles.
My current work centres on three interconnected themes: business engagement, responsible strategic thinking, and sustainability. I am the editor of Responsible Strategic Thinking for Business and Society (Routledge, 2025) and co-author of The Fundamentals of Event Design, the second edition of which will be published in 2026. Both books serve as practical guides for students and practitioners.
Alongside my writing, I collaborate with a range of businesses to create strategic and consultancy-based case studies that enhance students’ applied learning. I am also leading a research project exploring microbusinesses’ awareness of and attitudes towards sustainability, and designing a series of CPD workshops to test the real-world application of strategic thinking models within professional contexts.
