Currently a Lecturer in Architecture Design and Technology at Sheffield Hallam University, his work explores how digital technologies, including Virtual Reality (VR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Computational Design, can advance architectural design and urban development. His research integrates emerging methodologies and co-creation practices to promote sustainability, resilience, and efficiency in the built environment. With extensive experience in teaching, research, and industry collaboration, he is committed to advancing architectural education and fostering impactful knowledge exchange to address contemporary challenges in architecture and urbanism.

Dr Ehab is an architect, lecturer and researcher specialising in architectural design, sustainable urbanism and computational design. He joined Sheffield Hallam University in January 2024 as a Lecturer in Architectural Design and Technology within the Sheffield Creative Industries Institute.

Dr Ehab holds a BSc in Architecture Engineering from Loughborough University, an MArch in Design (with Distinction) and a PhD in Architecture Design (Social Science) from the University of Nottingham. His doctoral research examined how virtual reality and immersive co-design methods can enhance public engagement and inclusivity in urban environments, advancing concepts of sustainable vertical urbanism, vertical public realms and mixed-use resilient cities.

Before joining Sheffield Hallam, Dr Ehab held academic and research appointments across the UK. He taught as a Studio Tutor in Architecture at the University of Nottingham and as a Lecturer in Architecture at Nottingham Trent University, leading design studio and digital communication modules. I teach and research in plant molecular biology. This is based on PhD and postdoctoral research totalling 11 years in the UK and Canada before arriving at Sheffield Hallam University. Since 2006 I have continued research as principal investigator of a research group. My research experience is applied to teaching to deliver plant biology modules that promote active learning and develop research skills.

My fascination with plant biology started during my undergraduate studies at the University of Cambridge, and continued to develop via PhD research at the University of Calgary (Canada). A further six years of postdoctoral research at the University of Manchester allowed me to advance my research skills and to tackle fundamental questions about how proteins are organised within cells.

I am Associate Professor in Education in the Sheffield Institute of Education and a Principal Fellow (PFHEA). My research focusses on mathematics education, teacher learning and doctoral researchers’ experience. Recent projects include mathematics education policy reviews for the Royal Society’s Mathematical Futures Programme, an ESRC-funded study of research mobilities, evaluations of teacher professional learning (DfE & MEI) and narrative studies of experiences of learning. I came into higher education after seventeen years’ experience teaching and leading secondary mathematics and six years as a professional development advisor. I am currently REF Units of Assessment coordinator for education.

My research interests include exploring the socio-cultural and individual factors influencing professional and adult learning, particularly in relation to mathematics teacher learning and to doctoral researchers’ experience. Research projects include a mathematics education policy review, an evaluation of the Further Mathematics Support programme and evaluations of national mathematics curriculum and professional development projects. Other projects include narrative studies of experiences of learning on the professional doctorate and analysis of policy and workplace factors influencing opportunities for engagement in mathematics professional learning.

Previously, I led postgraduate research in the Sheffield Institute of Education and led the Doctorate in Education (2015-2020).  Beyond Sheffield Hallam, I was Deputy Director of the Education, Childhood & Youth Pathway, ESRC White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership and coordinated the Doctorate in Education Directors' National Network.

I began my career as a secondary mathematics teacher in inner London, later supporting schools in developing mathematics teaching. Prior to moving to Sheffield Hallam, I volunteered in Ethiopia for two years with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO), leading professional development programmes for teachers and teacher educators. Building on my early career as a mathematics teacher and teacher educator, I have contributed internationally to curriculum and teacher development projects: Mathematics in the Making (MiMa) and the Erasmus+ funded Project in Citizenship and Mathematics (PiCaM).

Senior lecturer in psychology at Sheffield Hallam University. I am interested in learning more about how young children acquire complex cognitive systems, with an emphasis on how young children use grammar. Typical tools: 1) Gathering, transcription, and coding longitudinal datasets of real conversations between kids and adults, as well as conducting data analysis to test hypotheses regarding the frequency with which kids employ particular words and morphemes in useful ways (e.g., Aguado-Orea & Pine, 2015). 2) Organizing and conducting experiments, such as studies based on grammaticality judgements or the preferential looking method (e.g., Aguado-Orea et al., 2016). 3) Child speech elicitation using experimental settings, also to test what they already know (e.g., Aguado-Orea et al., 2019). 4) Online scales that adults can use to judge their own language skills (Joyce and Aguado-Orea, 2022). Co-author of a book for university students on The Psychology of Education. My main skills are data analyses (including Bayesian and mixed regression models) with R, Jamovi, and I also use Python for selecting random samples of speech.

I joined SHU in 2010 after having previously worked at the University of Liverpool. My research and teaching interests include the history of the Black Diaspora in Germany, European colonialism, and constructions of race in pre-1945 Europe. My first book project, Exclusion and inclusion: Gradations of whiteness and socio-economic engineering in German Southwest Africa, 1884-1914 (Lang, 2007) looked at constructions of race in the settler colony of German Southwest Africa. I have since published widely on Germany's first Black community including Black Germany: The Making and Unmaking of a Diaspora Community, 1884-1960 (with Eve Rosenhaft, Cambridge University Press, 2013, 2015). My current research focuses on the Black experience of Nazi Germany as well as post-war compensation claims made by Black victims.

I have worked on a number of museum and memorialisation projects in Germany and I have developed my own travelling exhibition, Black Germany 1884-1945, which has been shown in the UK, Germany and Cameroon and used with a number of school groups.

I am an active contributor to the website Black Central Europe.

I am a Research Fellow at the Centre of Excellence for AI and Robotics (CEAIR), Sheffield Hallam University. My work is primarily focused on the MSCA Horizon 2020-funded project, PERSEO-ESR9, which aims to enhance robot autonomy and cognitive functions through advanced neuromorphic technologies.

My research explores the use of event cameras and neuromorphic computing to estimate cognitive load, thereby improving real-time human-robot interactions. This work extensively involves pioneering applications of event cameras in contexts where minimizing power consumption is essential.

Throughout my PhD, I have developed expertise in working with state-of-the-art neuromorphic hardware such as SpiNNaker, Loihi, BrainScale, and Synsens, implementing practical applications like gesture classification. These projects underscore the potential of neuromorphic technologies in achieving high computational efficiency with low power usage.

Currently, I am leading a cutting-edge project focused on real-time cognitive load estimation using multiple parameters. Simultaneously, I am also working on integrating the ARI Robot with SpiNNaker neuromorphic hardware and event cameras, to push forward the capabilities of autonomous systems in speed and efficiency.

My research propels theoretical advancements in cognitive science and robotics and has significant practical implications for the design of intuitive and sustainable human-robot interfaces.
