As a Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing, I bring over two decades of experience spanning nursing education, clinical practice, and research. Beyond education, my research pursuits focus on securing grants, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at national and international conferences. I also take pride in mentoring the next generation of scholars through PhD supervision.

I have demonstrated leadership and innovation in nursing education. I have also actively engaged with the broader nursing community, founding the UK Arab Academic Association and supporting PhD candidates and prospective nursing students. These roles showcase my dedication to enhancing the academic environment and promoting inclusivity in education and healthcare. My advocacy for interdisciplinary collaboration has enriched the learning experience for students, and my use of advanced teaching resources ensures that learners of all backgrounds and styles are supported. My research portfolio demonstrates a strong commitment to advancing nursing knowledge and addressing real-world challenges. Key achievements include:

• Leading a funded research project, "Developing Cultural Competency: Improving Participation, Inclusion, and Representation of Muslim Women in Health and Social Care Research," supported by the Hallam Fund.
• Co-authoring peer-reviewed publications on antimicrobial stewardship and young asylum seekers' access to mental health services.
• Leading a study on the impact of a student buddy system on nursing and midwifery engagement and well-being.
• Collaborating on research examining the health inequalities faced by Black African and Black Caribbean communities in the UK.

These projects highlight my ability to address pressing healthcare issues while fostering collaboration across disciplines and institutions.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in fostering student success through tailored instruction, mentoring, and curriculum development.  My role as Health Ethics Lead further reinforces my commitment to ethical academic practice, as I support research proposals and ensure compliance with rigorous ethical standards. Professional development remains a priority, evidenced by my completion of the Aurora Leadership Programme and my active involvement in refining teaching methodologies.

Beyond the university, I actively participate in professional nursing networks and community initiatives. As a Director of the UK Arab Academic Association and a member of the Multilingualism Network at the Sheffield Institute of Education, I leverage my expertise to benefit diverse communities.

My engagement in recruitment and my work as a link lecturer demonstrate my commitment to bridging academia and clinical practice. My belief in empowering individuals to achieve their potentials aligns with my professional ethos of treating everyone with dignity and respect. By fostering a culture of equality and embracing diverse perspectives, I aim to inspire transformative changes in nursing education and practice.

My plans include pursuing further research opportunities, applying for additional grants, and continuing to support students and colleagues in their academic and professional journeys. I'm currently part-time working three days a week for Sheffield Hallam. I make up the rest in clinical practice leading a First-Contact Musculoskeletal team in a large Primary Care Network in York.

Since qualifying as a Physiotherapist, I have worked in three major NHS trusts in a range of responsibilities, but primarily within Musculoskeletal care. Prior to this I was a football coach at Development Centres and Centres of Excellence in the North East. I have been fortunate enough to teach in other education establishments and for the Football Association before arriving at Sheffield Hallam University.

I hold a strong interest in First Contact Practice, clinical reasoning and the construction and application of effective consultation.

I am a Senior Lecturer in Nursing and Midwifery with a strategic focus on digital transformation, research-informed education, and future-ready workforce development. My academic role spans course and module leadership across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with a particular emphasis on online and blended learning, professional practice, and inclusive education.

Alongside my teaching leadership, I am undertaking doctoral research exploring the integration of artificial intelligence (including generative AI) into nurse and midwifery education, with a focus on educational value, ethical implementation, and impact on professional practice. I am actively involved in national digital health and education initiatives and contribute to cross-sector conversations shaping the future of nursing and midiwfery education in the UK.

I am a Senior Lecturer in Radiotherapy and Oncology and the Post Graduate Research Tutor for Health. I teach on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervise PhD students and am a researcher in the broad areas of Cancer Management and Workforce.

I have worked as a Senior Lecturer in Radiotherapy and Oncology at Sheffield Hallam University since 1998. I contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes - particularly with regards to research methods, image guided radiotherapy and radiation physics. I am also the Post Graduate Research Tutor for Health.

Current research areas are radiography/radiotherapy workforce, upright radiotherapy and virtual reality and simulation in educational contexts. I supervise PhD students undertaking research projects within these domains.

I currently lead development and delivery of the Configurational Comparative Analysis project, which is a key element of the broader evaluation of place-based systemic approaches to inequalities in physical activity commissioned by Sport England and delivered by the National Evaluation and Learning Partnership (NELP) consortium. This represents part of an innovative Realist approach which responds to the challenges of evaluation of change in complex social systems. We are working on several journal papers setting out our approaches and early findings in this work. 

My doctoral thesis, completed in 2022, developed an ethnographic psycho-social approach to explore experiences of psychological well-being among volunteers in contexts of health inequalities. The methods and key findings are set out in two peer-reviewed articles, Volunteering, Identities and Wellbeing in Contexts of Health Inequalities, and Empowering people and communities? The power of stories in asset-based
approaches to health inequalities. This built on my Master’s degree research project, which explored the wellbeing effects of volunteering in a foodbank.

I also have 17 years experience of working in Public Health in the NHS and local authority, on policy and strategy, commissioning and programme management, and prior to that worked in community safety, regeneration and housing roles in local authorities.

Qualified midwife since 2010. Clinically worked in a range of setting including the management of an Birth Centre and Triage. Joined the University in June 2019.

I am a senior lecturer in Adult Nursing. My nursing background is general medicine, cardiology and resuscitation training. My specialist interests include simulation, resuscitation and the management of Acute Coronary Syndrome.

As a Sheffield Hallam University Alumni, training on the BSc Midwifery programme from 2013, Emily qualified as a Midwife in 2016, returning to work as a Lecturer in Midwifery here at Sheffield Hallam in 2024.

Emily has worked clinically in both rotational and integrated roles, as well as a Ward Sister and Learning Environment Manager in the NHS before moving into midwifery education, where she teaches across the BSc and MSc Midwifery programmes. 

Other related training and education includes postgraduate study in mentorship, newborn infant physical examination, professional midwifery advocacy and an MSc in Higher Midwifery at Anglia Ruksin University.

Emily is undertaking a PGCert in Higher Education, in 2026 and hopes to further publish and continue research commenced in her Masters level study. 

Helen is a Physiotherapist by background, with over 20 years experience in Higher Education. She is currently the Associate Head of the School of Health & Social Care responsible for student recruitment and outreach. Helen is a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and a Principal Fellow of Advance HE. She has extensive expertise in curriculum development and design. Helen's key interests include widening participation, inclusive educational delivery, practice-based learning, and simulation.

Helen qualified as a physiotherapist in 1989 and worked in the musculoskeletal field for many years. She joined Sheffield Hallam University in 2002 and has extensive teaching, learning and assessment experience across the pre and post registration curriculum. Helen is currently serving as the Associate Head of School for Recruitment and Outreach in the School of Health and Social Care at Sheffield Hallam University.

Throughout her career, Helen has remained deeply committed to the development of future health professionals, focusing on the intersection of clinical practice, teaching, and the integration of innovative learning strategies. She gained  a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in 2002, followed by an MSc in Manipulative Physiotherapy in 2006.

In 2024, Helen was honoured to be awarded both Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) and a Fellowship of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (FCSP), recognising her leadership across teaching and learning in the field of healthcare education. 

Helen's expertise spans across inclusive educational delivery, curriculum enhancement, widening participation, placement expansion and innovation,  simulation and staff development. Helen led the development and implementation of practice-based learning across the 4 pillars of practice (clinical practice, education, leadership, and research) and simulated placements across the Allied Health pre-registration curriculum at SHU. Helen has led research projects and presented at numerous conferences on these topics, advocating for their importance in preparing students for real-world healthcare environments.

Helen is passionate about widening participation and creating an inclusive, supportive educational environment for all students. Helen’s goal is to continue to ensure that the next generation of healthcare professionals is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary for success in the dynamic and evolving healthcare landscape.

Colette Qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1990 and is a Specialist Occupational Therapist in Neurology. Her previous work history has involved working in neuro rehabilitation and community rehabilitation including intermediate care, over a 16 years period. Colette has a specialist interest in cognitive rehabilitation and brain injury. Colette then went on to complete an MSc in Vocational Rehabilitation in 2014 and joined the teaching staff within the Occupational Therapy team at Sheffield Hallam University in 2006. She was also awarded an Inspirational teaching Award in 2014.

In 1990 Colette qualified at Salford School of Occupational Therapy. During this year she accepted a rotational post at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. In 1991 she made a move to Nottinghamshire, accepting a job at Hawtonville Hospital for the Elderly working in both inpatient and day hospital settings. In 1992 Colette began working in Rotherham as a Senior O.T at Rotherham General Hospital in general medicine and In 1993 joined the team in Rotherham's Young Disabled Unit, enjoying this role for nine years. It was in this time that her specialist interest in neurology developed, appreciating the diversity of work with clients with neurological disorders, in particular clients with head injury.

In 2001 Colette Joined Rotherham's intermediate care services working within community rehabilitation team and in 2006 Joined the occupational therapy teaching team at SHU. Colette's area of teaching relates to neurology, brain anatomy, and community rehabilitation and she contributes to all OT and Vocational Rehabilitation course programmes.

In 2013 Colette completed an MSc in Vocational Rehabilitation and earned the award of Inspirational teaching Award for the University in 2014. In addition to the work at SHU, Colette works in private practice in the field of Neuro-rehabilitation conducting assessments and initiating rehabilitation programmes including making recommendations for client's future care and rehabilitation following acquired brain injury.

I am Associate Head of School (Midwifery) and Lead Midwife for Education at Sheffield Hallam University. I am an NMC Registered Midwife, Adult Nurse and Lecturer/Practice Educator. I am passionate about person-centred care for women and birthing people and educating future generations of midwives to provide the best quality care.

I began my career in healthcare aged 18 when I commenced training to become a Registered Adult Nurse over 30 years ago. I loved being a nurse but always had a desire to become a midwife, so commenced midwifery training in 1996. I love being a midwife - it is both an honour and a privilege to be part of the life-changing journey of childbearing. My career in midwifery education began in 2001 and since that time I have had the pleasure of educating countless midwives and am always proud to see their careers progress.

I enjoy teaching; my key interests are biology, midwifery practice and providing student support. I presented my ideas for a new model of teaching biology applied to midwifery at The International Confederation of Midwives Triennial Congress in Prague in 2014, and also received a Lord Dearing Award for outstanding contribution to the development of teaching and student learning in 2017. I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Royal College of Midwives.

I have a keen interest in assessment practices and I am currently undertaking a Professional Doctorate in Education, where the focus of my research is assessment methods. I previously created a group debate as a summative method of assessment and published an article in the British Journal of Midwifery about this.

I am also Lead Midwife for Education and am part of the UK-wide LME network, engaging with the NMC, the Chief Midwifery Officer for England, NHS England and the Council of Deans for Health to advocate for issues affecting midwifery students and education.

I feel very lucky to work for Sheffield Hallam University with such an innovative and supportive team, and to combine my love of midwifery with my passion for educating future midwives.

I am an interdisciplinary researcher specialising in medical anthropology. My research primarily examines the intersections of culture, gender, health, and climate, with a particular emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), anti-racism, gender-based violence - specifically honour-based abuse - and the social determinants of health and wellbeing. 

I am a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre of Applied Health and Social Care Research (CARe) within the School of Health and Social Care, which is part of the College of Health, Wellbeing, and Life Sciences at Sheffield Hallam University. I am a part of the Maternal and Infant Health Research Group (MIHRG) in the CARe. Sadiq is the lead and founder of a Medical Anthropology and Sociology Research Network (MASRN), co-founder and co-lead of The Global Sex and Gender Violence Group (GSGV) and Anti-Racism Research Group. 

As an anthropologist, sociologist, public health professional and interdisciplinary researcher, I bring a unique perspective to my work. I integrate anthropological and sociological theories, practices and methods with public health research, teaching and policy development. I take an intersectional approach, emphasising social justice and using ethnographic and participatory methods to investigate public health problems and propose new insights for pragmatic solutions.

I am actively involved in research, teaching, and supervision. I have experience securing and managing internally and externally funded research and knowledge exchange projects. I have led several local, national, and international research projects from inception to dissemination, demonstrating my ability to drive impactful research on a global scale. I have demonstrated experience in collaborating by contributing to numerous projects as a co-investigator or team member. I led the development of international research collaborations and partnerships between the university and colleagues in Pakistan, Indonesia, and Kenya.

I have worked in various capacities with various organisations in the UK and Pakistan and completed research projects in Indonesia, Pakistan, and the Philippines. My research has been published in high-quality journals, has five book chapters, and is not just for academia. I have made a conscious effort to share my insights with the public through platforms like Conversation UK, The Express Tribune, Dawn.com, the Friday Times, and other media outlets. This demonstrates my ability to communicate complex research in a way that is accessible and engaging for all, ensuring that everyone can benefit from my work. Sadiq is a co-editor of the book 'Anti-Racist Nursing and Midwifery: A Guide for Students, Practitioners and Educators (Critical Publishing June 2025).

I am a Co-Investigator for the UKRI-AHRC funded Nursing Narratives project, contributed to filmmaking to produce the documentary "Exposed", which combines the stories of 19 Black, brown and migrant nurses and midwives to speak about their powerful experiences of racism before and during the pandemic. Since its release (March 2022), Exposed has been screened at 35 locations in the UK and abroad.

I prepared and submitted the written evidence on understanding honour crimes to the UK Parliament's Women and Equalities Committee (March 22, 2023). The committee acknowledged the value of the ideas presented in the statement by accepting it and publishing it on its website as a prominent source to promote a nuanced understanding of honour crimes.

I have led and facilitated several knowledge exchange events, notably organising a community dialogue on the concept of "honour" and its implications in honour-based abuse under the auspices of the ESRC Festival of Social Sciences (15th Year edition) and the Unlearn and Learn event at the Open University, which featured the Nursing Narratives project documentary and an anti-racist manifesto for change.
